Description
When I first read about Shakleton’s voyages in Antarctica I was entranced. I still am. This image is a kind of distillation of my response. To me the cold blue of the ice surrounding The Endurance is hot the way a flame is when it burns hottest. It represents the heart of the painting, the heart of the man, the heart of the story, even though it took place in one of the coldest places on earth.
