Description

This was inspired by a visit to the lake in the northeastern quadrant of Central Park. I was there with friends, wandering in the late afternoon at summer’s end.  All was still green, people were about, and the light was gorgeous. Birds were flying in and landing on the lake. The water slit open in silver and black lines as they skidded across the surface and slipped into a float. The ripples flowed out from their bodies and their wakes, undulating reflections, undoing imagery and remelting it together in a mercury-pewter music. Of course I sort of invented my own bird… blue-blue for the sky you can’t see and the glorious blue of the heart’s fire.
